Your telegram of December 17th Information no doubt correct as I learn that several American shipping firms are enquiring about office accommodation. Presume you do not wish me to consult local shipowners who would no doubt object to competition but I cannot see that anything except good can result to trade of the Colony (? and) successful opposition (? would) almost certainly mean diversion of trade to Manila from Hong Kong.
